Therapeutic programs – Dog assisted therapy

Dealing with organizational issues – Organizational difficulties are a small indication of the

larger issue of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. As part of the regular preparations for

sessions, the patient is expected to prepare the equipment needed for the session. In other words,

treatment can be seen to begin even before the session, when the patient is given responsibility to

think about the order of actions he must carry out so as to work on a training command. For

example, the patient needs to prepare two snacks and a cracker, and then give the dog the order,

and reinforce it with a clicker and a treat. At the end of the session, the patient has to return all

the equipment to its place tidily. These small actions are part of the cumulative basic executive

tasks, which the patients need to deal with in their daily life.

Working with children on the autism spectrum – Children diagnosed with difficulties in

communication and social skills. The purpose of the therapy is to teach reading of body language

and understanding social situations, giving tools for the right approach to making contact.

Therefore, the instruction and training of a therapeutic dog trainer is very significant in providing

intentional response such as bending towards the patient, making eye contact, and maintaining

amiability.
